Hi All, have been in the process of putting a V6 and T18 in my CJ and have a question. Does anyone have pictures on how they covered up the shift tower in their Jeep. The shift tower comes out way forward of where the stock hole is and I am seeing that I will have to build a new cover and would like some ideas! Thanks in advance for any pictures or advice,

I don't have a picture but It turned out really well on my 3b. I took the stock cover and cut it in half length wise. after spreading them and bolting them in place over the tranny I then over lapped piece of sheet metal over the two sides and welded it up and re-drilled my hole. A little grinding on the welds and some paint and it looked like a factory cover. well actually it is, it's just wider now.;)

Hey Jim, That looks real good and simple, thanks for the photo. Sometimes it takes just one picture to cure things up. And if anyone else has a picture it would be great. This is such a cool site with all the good information. Thanks again,

    Hello Again,

When I first saw your picture with your shift lever sitting back further than mine, I thought I had my shifter on backwards (case is empty no gears in) so it would be possible. So, I went to look at a picture of a T18 and (yes) my cover is on correctly. So, my question is, what setup are you using for your T18 that puts your shifter a lot further back than mine? I am using a modified stock bell housing with the trans bolted up with no adapter. And, my shifter comes through the floor about 3 inches in front of the stock T90 hole. Thanks again,

Is this fitted behind the 153 Stovebolt engine and in front of a Spicer 20 ?

Positioning the transmission foreward via bellhousing adapter elimination is IMHO the right way to procede.

Not it is not in front of my 153 Chevy, I sold my 3B body and tore down my CJ2A. I am building up the custom tube frame with wrangler springs and putting the CJ2a body on it. I have the 225 V6 with stock bell housing mated to my T18 with no adapter, and a Dana 20. I am in the process of mounting the engine and transmission, and getting the body in position for building body mounts. I was looking at the transmission poking through the floor and was wondering how to make a transmission cover for it. I can’t afford two Jeeps, so I am building the CJ2A up with all my good stuff and selling off the left over parts and stuff.

The cover that bkd made looks similar to the Willy's T98 solution,
Plus it will allows for nearly any fore /aft changes.

Splicing the original cover plate should look better but that would involve both fore/aft and side/side tower hole adjustments.

Guess I missed that one from your first post.

    153 QUESTIONS...
So you are currently still running the 153 Stovebolt ?
What kind of hiway MPG, gearing and tires ?

    T18 QUESTIONS...
Is yours a Jeep wide ratio ?
If so did you custom machine your maindrive gear to fit ?

I am not running my 153 any more as I am replacing it with the V6. When my CJ2A was together I had 31 inch tires and 4:27 gears. I do not know what the milage was, but I do like the motor and mite use it in another project or sell it along with a spare I have. As, for the T18 I just used the model with the 6.42 first gear out of a Ford truck, which had the short input shaft. I just modified the stock bell housing per instructions from Novaks site, and I had Parts Mike make me a front bearing retainer to fit the GM bell housing and to use stock GM throw out bearing. As, far as the GM 153 motor it fits in a Jeep real well and you have more latitude as far as front to back placement. The only reason I am changing is that I want more horse power and It is easier to mount a power steering pump to it, as the inline four never had a pump on it that I know of.
