I was putting my engine back together and broke my rightside exhaust manifold. Question is should I try to have it welded or just replace it. I was told that welding cast iron is difficult and need to be done by someone who knows what they are doing. Replacing it......I haven't looked yet but how plentiful are these? How much do they cost? Cheaper to have welded or replace?

Oh the questions that fill my head. What would you guys do?

It depends. What steering do you have. do you still have the drivers side dumping out forward? If not you could swap in the buick manifolds. My local Junkyard has three sets still installed.

Welding Cast is a special trick - not something I would attempt as I have not done it in many years. I think you would be time and money ahead to get another manifold. If you still need the forward dump just say your looking for a Pass Side as well (some folks don't realize they are the same) and post a WTB add.

I am sure there are folks with them on here...

If Junkyard is cheap I would go that route, but.....I had a 91 Isuzu that had a broken exhasut manifold. New was around $350, Junkyard was over $150 and I had to remove it. Went to a local muffler shop and he welded it for $10. Lasted over 150,000 miles and then I sold the Isuzu.

I just called my local junk yard. They don't have anything that will work.

I didn't think about the muffler shop. I will give then a call.

Do you know how to braze?
That would be a lot easier than trying to weld the cast iron. For something like an exhaust manifold where strength is not the major issue brazing the broken part should work fine.
If you were local I would have you bring it over and do it for you.

Might put an ad in the Classifieds. Probably one out there on a core motor someone would sell reasonable.....
