I have a 71 cj5, and was looking for linkage for the wipers. Is there a diffrence between the 71 and some of the newer windshields? I cant find any for the 71, but I have found some for the 72-76.

I believe the linkages for 75 and prior bottom mounted wipers are the same.

Note that the windshield (and linkage) changes in '76, so a '72-76 application has to be wrong.

Some here have used the later linkage and changed the lengths so that it works on the earlier wndshield. You have to cut the linkage and weld or braze it back together. Search in the Intermediate forum posts - like Jim says, the Intermediate Jeeps have the same linkage as you do.

Externally the windshields are the same from 1969 (sometime) until 1975. I've never had one apart to say for sure, but if I were a betting man...

You'd win your bet. The linkages, pivots, motors and covers, are all the same from mid '67 (as near as I've been able to pin down a year) with the flat top glass and bottom wipers up to '75. I've had both the '68-'71 style side by side to one I know came from a '73 original and they were identical right down the rear view mirror and footman's loops as far as I could tell.
The '67 frame, glass, glass seal, etc. are different but wiper parts are the same as the others.

I have the bottom wiper flat top glass frame, isn't that one kind of hard to come by?

    As in $rare$? R)

They weren't used very long and have the advantage of bottom mounted wipers without the advantage of the later bigger WS.

Do the newer pivots work w/ the old linkages? (got a bad pivot).

    x2.

The one advantage the flat top glass bottom wiper unit has is they still have the stand offs on the W/S frame which means you can use an earlier hood and have the tie downs/latch in the right place with no modifications. Personally, I prefer better visibility.

try finding parts for a 68 with top mounted wipers. With the dual motors on top. Seems like they used this peticular setup for about a half year...

I'm converting to the lower wipers8)
