Explorer 8.8 rear end swap

    hey there is a guy around me with some ford 8.8 rear axles. they are 3.73 geared and limited slip. and they have disk brakes...

    i was wondering if i could fit it on my 74 cj5. now i know the bolt pattern is different.....but what about the peaches and there locations??

    and length???

    anyone have any experience??

    Bolt pattern differences, width is close to YJ width, C-clip axles, possibly wrong gear ratio. Perches in wrong place. Why not run your stock Dana 44?

    What's wrong with your Dana 44? No, the perches would have to be moved. The axle is about 5 or 6" wider than your current one, so your front wouldn't match. It's a C-clip axle which is a step down from your Dana 44. I see no benefit to doing this whatsoever.

    alright right on. just wondering. cause i would love like the posi and disk breaks...... does anyone have any idea how to replace an oil seal in the dana 44 rear axle.

    Your D44 is limited slip...no disk brakes though...you could always drill the drums, I've heard that works well.

    Try the TSM for how to change the oil seal...see the first post in this thread,
