Ya, about 8"! I figured it pretty close. Cold rolled is a little more expensive than hot rolled, but a LOT nicer to work with.

Got my replacement intake today. I ground off the front corner for clearance on the HEI dist. Going to install it tomorrow, recalibrate the ECU for the throttle body and see how it runs. If things go well I'll be putting this thread to bed soon!

Tomorrow is here, but I understand if you are mourning the weather. On the bright side if the weather doesn't turn soon, you can always mount skis on the front and go for it.

Well, it still is running like krap. I emailed the computer log to Retrotek this evening. I'm fairly certain it's the EFI and not the ignition system. But I'm taking a close look at the distributor too. I'm so ready to be done with this thing. We'll see what Retrotek comes up with.

    Thanks Jeff.

Warloch - Well I'm no further towards getting this POS running any better. I uploaded your calibration files into the ECU but it didn't make any difference. I emailed my log to Cody at Retro this afternoon. We'll see what he has to say. Here's the link to the article I mentioned about the Buick coil having reverse polarity compared to the Chevy.

I'm going to check mine tomorrow and see which way it is. That could have a big effect on the tach pulse that the ECU is getting. But I'm kinda grasping at straws at this point.

posi , maybe it's the same problem I was chasing in my hei dist, this was a long time ago and I don't really remember the symtoms but the soft magnet in the pickup?(i would have to look up the tech term for it ) was cracked all the way though, and that cause me ALOT of trouble tring to find why it ran so bad , once I threw another magnet in it (just the magnet I changed nothing else),,,,,it was fine .

I fairly certain it's not the HEI. It's brand new fro DUI. I'm betting that the problem is in the fuel injection unit. Something is screwed up in the control module. Could be hardware, could be software.

That's interesting - FWIW - I built the HEI I am running, don't remember hooking it up reverse.

I wonder if it even matters. I'm sure the engine doesn't care what the polarity of the coil is. My tach is working just fine on the tach output. Same spot I have the signal wire for the EFI

Well, I spoke with a tech support guy at Retrotek yeaterday. He gave me a suggestion to try. Didn't work. I'm going to spend a hour or so today going over everything one more time and if I don't get it running it's going back to Retrotek. I have a gut feeling there is something screwed up with the TB itself. The tech guy keeps telling me it has to do with the erratic tach signal caused by the odd-fire dist. I know that can't be the problem as Warloch and many others are running this system just fine with an odd-fire engine. Let's just say the techie doesn't give me great confidence in his ability to solve my problem. I'm going to stop short of calling him a moron. Updates later.

Nope. Ain't gonna waste the time or the $ to put a carb back on. I'd have to change intake manifold and buy and plumb in a new fuel pump and who knows what else. If I have to send this TB back to have them check it out, I'll use the time to put an ARB in the front, which I planned to do anyway. Just thought I'd wait until I had everything else working first.

Just from my own experience with fuel injection systems, tach leads are pretty susceptible to electronic interference. Is the wire running at least a couple of inches from the ignition wires? Do you have access to a oscilloscope to check for any background interference?
