I'm pretty sure that falls under the category of "late".

I'm pretty sure it was just the first year or two of production that was having issues.

    How long is it?
    Belhousing surface to waterpump.

Funny but if you think about it the 225 isnt that far off in power and real simple compared.

Not the same but not bad....

Aside from the length, your main difficulty will be the complexity of the replacement engine. IMO. You can adapt and understand all the new systems, but it will require some research and study. Could be very time consuming. Plus, lots of the new systems on the LLR are related to emissions only; the swaps linked to above were done by owners committed to keeping all the emissions systems intact. You're going to have to chose a configuration that retains some or all of the emissions related equipment, and make it work.

One alternative might be to rebuild the 225 and install TBI using the Megasquirt. Could end up cheaper in the long run.

    I agree .
the more I read the more I see how much adapting would have to be done.
Too bad really would be a good engine.

Still not clear on the mega squirt setup though.

Megasquirt is a DIY controller for EFI. According to what I've read, you can choose to average the tach pulses instead of squirting on every pulse. This allows the use of the Megasquirt with an odd-fire engine.

Unless I read it wrong, the 225 has about 100hp less than the I-5. I have an I-6 in an Envoy. It's like all the new LS type Vortec's. It has a great hp to cu. in. ratio and loves to rev., but it has zip for bottom end torque. That's one of the best things about the 225, the torque. Of coarse the 500lb. flywheel helps.

You mean 50 lb., 500lb is more than the whole 225 weighs. R)

You can use all the GM bits except the ECU. The kit for the basic Megasquirt ECU is between $139 and $247, depending on what options you want. You can buy the bare board for less, but the kit costs less than the board plus parts.

I'm aware that it doesn't weigh 500#. Lighten up. It just seems to be that heavy when you have to bend over and pick it up!..at least that's what my back thinks.

I wasn't being serious, speaking of "lightening up". ;)

Well, it is only ~50 lbs. so I was serious about that.
