I have a question that hopefully someone can answer. My Dad converted this 1970 cj5 over to power steering in the early 70's. I dont know where he got this bracket, but it makes the power steering pump sit pretty high above the heads. Ithink i've seen pics of power steering pumps mounted lower. The reason i'm asking is that i'm trying to add power brakes from a 1991 yj, and the set up hits the back of the power steering pump. I't s about 2" to long.
If anyone has a suggestion i'm all ears!
I have pics of the bracket but i cant figure out how to post them.

I would look for a shorter power brake setup, and leave the power steering alone.

That looks like the bracketry from a Jeepster Commando or Wagon/Pickup with the Buick 350.
I agree with Timgr, I'd use a different combo of brake booster m/c if it's that long.

i am useing the swinging peddals, master cylinder, power booster and firewall bracket out of a 1991 yj. the bracket measures 3 1/2", the power booster measures 4 1/2", and the master cylinder measures 8 1/2".
i was thinking about cutting 2" out of the firewall bracket and cutting 2" out of rod that conects brake peddal to power booster. this sounds like alot of work. and i dont know how safe it is.
i know this is a common upgrade, so there has to be a better sulotion.

I think your problem is the YJ bracket that holds the booster out away from the firewall. The intermediate (72-75) booster goes right up against the firewall. I think the booster is a standard size - you can get hot rod boosters that are smaller around, but no shorter. Also, I think the earlier MC is shorter - 8.5" seems long.

If you had the intermediate pedals, you'd still have to find a booster that works. The power brake setups from 72-75 are not common, and the booster is NLA from aftermarket sources, AFAIK. I have a hydroboost for mine, but it's not in yet. I will look at it and make some measurements later.

Measured the master cylinder from my CJ - it's slightly over 6.5" from mounting surface to tip. The hydroboost I have (Astro van) is too long for your application - much longer than a vacuum booster.

Hanging pedals from an intermediate Jeep would put the mounting surface at the firewall. Not the easiest to come by, but seems ideal.

I used brackets from an '86 Buick Regal for my pump. It sits quite a bit lower than yours. I can post a pic Thursday if you want to see it.

That would be great! I'm leaning towards changing the power steering bracket. I know what vehicle to look at when looking for a new bracket.

I have been told that the brackets from both the small block v-8 and the v-6 are the same, does anyone know for sure.

I just started swapping everything to a new frame. Not what I'd prefer to be doing this time of year. :)

    Posimoto,
I have a question for you, whitch power steering pump are you useing? I found the bracket out of a 1986 Buick Regal. It fits, but the power steering pump i was already useing, doesnt allow any movement to take up the slack in the fan belt. Its hitting the low pressure return on the heads, and not allowing it to have any adjustment. Thanks Rob

I think I used the pump for an '86 Regal. It's been quite awhile since I did the swap. Pretty sure I got the pump when I got the brackets and just went down to the FLAPS and got a rebuilt one to replace it. Used the reservois from the old unit. I can probably take a closer pic of my brackets tomorrow if you want. Does the pulley on the pump line up with the pulley on the crank when you use that bracket?
