Over the weekend i went to the Badlands Offroad Park. The willys did great other than a clutch issue. I noticed sometimes it would ingage an other times it would not. Now i know my clutch is good. I washed it yesterday and sometimes the clutch would work and a few seconds later it would not. Do you think maybe its out of adjustment?

Now for the real question. Does anyone know of a backyard way of making it a hydraulic? I have a local salvage yard i can grab parts from. Its got the t90 mated to a 350 Chevy.

Use the search function,( I dont know how to post up the link for you). Type in "hydraulic clutch conversion". There is one that uses a Toyota master cylinder and a Wildwood (or simular ) slave unit that looks real good. I plan on doing that conversion myself on my Jeepster project. You will have to do some pedal work too.Hope this helps.

I drilled and tapped into one of the ears on the side of my T90 and fastened one end of the slave cylinder to it, the other end to the clutch fork ofcourse. Used the swinging pedals and a clutch master cyl from a local dirt track race shop. Works good.

Sorry to start a tangent but a question I have wondered about for awhile: What is the advantage of a hydraulic clutch? On newer vehicles the hydraulic clutch seems to be a weak point, or at least an aggravation, in terms of longevity.

Does it help with engagement with higher HP motors?

    Curious,

The mechanical clutch linkage seems to be just as if not more prone to damage/wear and tear. More parts to wear out. More parts to adjust. It also get's bound up more with the cross shaft from the frame to the Tcase while wheeling.

On the other hand, it's easier to fix.

The AA chain setup helps with this.

My main reasons for moving to the hydro - swinging pedals - ease of adapting to other tranny tcase options.

    :iagree:

Another reason is it can give you more mechanical advantage for an easier pedal push without the bulk and complexity of all the rods and levers.

When I had a 3A I used the pedals out of a early 70's Datson pickup the brake master out of a 240 or 260 Z the clutch master from a 4 cylinder CJ7 and an after market slave of some sort worked great

It depends what you want to dig up and what you have. I have a Wrangler 3/4" bore master and a Toyota slave, with a different fork, stock GM item, but not sure what it is from. Pedals are a stock Jeep hanging pedals, think it was late 70s/early 80s, which I modified slightly. You can buy the parts form Novak and save yourself the headache of running around trying to find parts that will work, the kit comes with the slave and brackets. The kits are not that expensive. If you do a search there are some photos of my hydraulic set up on here ....somewhere.
