Hi everyone. When I was cleaning my transfer case this past week, the pressure washer blew out these "plugs" that keep dirt from getting down in the 4wd shift rods. The old plugs that were blown out were lost, and so I have nothing to measure for replacements. I've got it narrowed down to a 1/2 in bolt, but I'm not sure about thread pitch. All the 1/2 bolts I had were way to coarse. Any ideas on where I could get replacements, or use something else that would work?

Most of the CJ's used push-in generic type plastic plugs of the type used for plugging up holes in anything. They were tapered to tighten as you pushed them in. Some Jeep 20 transfer cases used plugs (Jeepster Commando's did) and so did Scouts. I can't answer for the thread pitch off the top of my head but it's not a standard bolt diameter to thread pitch ratio. it's kind of an odd ball. Probably find the push in plugs at flaps or hardware store or see if someone has the thread in plugs from another transfer case.

If you have a hose supply company in your arear that handles different types and sizes of rubber hose they will have a huge assortment of different size plastic end caps they put in finished hose ends to keep the impurties out. They would probably give you a handful for nothing.

^^ The plastic hose plugs would work. Or if you are lazy, gasket maker is your friend. R)

Jim are you thinking of the pressed in shift rail caps on the back of the transfer case?

I was thinking he meant the top plastic caps that filled the holes where one installs the poppet balls and springs before installing the shift rails. Those holes are threaded and can accept a switch to activate a 4 wd light or threaded plugs.:coffee:
