I seem to have a brake light and turn signal problem. My Jeep is a 74 CJ5. I am replacing the brakeswitch as soon as Autozone get it in. I took my turn signal housing apart and the insides of it are not anything I have seen before. I don't believe it is unique just something I haven't seen. My questions are this: 1. Is it fixable if the brakeswitch is not the problem. 2. Where can I find a repair kit? If it is a negative for both of tme I will be getting a Signal Stat 900, I just have to find out where they are sold. Here a couple of pics to hopefully that might help.

The Spartan turn signal is quite a simple little gadget.
Usually they can just be cleaned up and will work fine.
I believe you'll be waiting a long time for Autozone to get one, but that would be cool if they started carrying them.

Clean up the contacts and maybe add a little dielectric grease and put it back together.
That would be the first choice.

    X2,
make sure contacts are clean and check to make sure you are getting continuity across them. easy way to check with installed is to work lever back and forth a few dozen times watching the lights to see if the function intermittantly.

never heard of a repair kit for the switch assmebly, but dirt road simple and shouldn't need one.

If the brake lights don't work, there is no way the TS can work since that's where they get their power feed.

I would fix the brake lights and then see if the TS start working again. Oh, and X2 on cleaning and reassembling the TS switch.

The intent was to clean the switch however the part order to replace the cam is not the same as what I have. Let's see if I can post a pic of it.

This is the part listed to repair the switch to repair it. In fact, all the research I have done on this board and others show this as the correct part for my year Jeep.

been a while since I had one apart, but I don't think you're gonna find one of those inside a spartan switch

looks like a part for an internal steering column switch... $.02

Looks like another case of the parts punk figuring the year doesn't matter on the switch so he just ordered whatever was close. I agree with everyone else that the stock switch is dirt simple and probably just needs to be cleaned, but that doesn't mean it's going to fix your brake lights.

Yeah, that switch they ordered you is for a 76 on, i.e. an internal column switch.
    Won't fit - Sorry, man.

Sounds like you're on the right track though.
The best way to test your switch is to use the Ohm meter built into your DVM (Volt meter).
Hook up the positive to the flasher in. You'll have to figure that out, use the wiring diagram in your manual.
When you switch it to the left the front and rear left leads should show continuity (DVM spike) when you touch the neg side to them. Same for the right.
When you hook up the positive to the brake in, both rear leads should spike when you touch them with the neg.
If you switch it to the left the left lead should stop showing continuity so that flasher can "bleed" through.

    Good Luck.

    Awesome!
    Thanks for letting us know.
(Also, just realized you wrote that AZ was ordering a brake switch not the TS, sorry for my confusion)
