    I replaced my D27 with a D30.
Just got my new drive shafts. with all 1310 ujoints and .120 wall tubing.
The front one is giving me trouble.
I switched out the tcase yoke for a larger ujoint 1310.

I kept the D30 yoke that came with the axle.
First I noticed it is leaking abit, all new seals ect.
When I went to install the ujoint the ubolts didnt fit.
A little to wide in there spacing to fit in the holes of the yoke.
At this point I thought hey this must be for straps.
So I went and bought some straps but they dont fit as well.
The bolts are too thick. And the straps arent deep enough to go around the ujoint cups.

So I dont know whats up.
I searchd and saw a deal about converting to ubolts by drilling out the holes?
With it leaking some I woundering if its the wrong yoke.
I got the whole axle from a guy who took it out of a cj7 82.

    Any ideas.

This project is really fighting me:rofl:

Could the yoke be a double cardan style yoke? The spacing on those are off just a little bit so the u-bolts don't fit. Jeep used the same yoke spacing since around '42 to around 90'something except for the V-6 yoke, Detroit style yokes used in Wagons and Pickups, and CV yokes. Either that or someone is giving you the wrong parts...
The spacing between the bolts on the strap type yokes and u-bolt yokes is the same.
Can you post a pic? May help us id what you have.

The yoke came on the D30 and looked like it had been on there while being used.

I didnt have time to look close and see if it had threads in the holes.
    had to go make dinner.
The straps had the bolt spacing right but couldnt wrap around the cup.
they left a gap between the yoke and the strap on both sides if you get what I mean.
Or you could say the straps arnt deep enough to hold the whole ujoint cup.
And the holes in the yoke were to small dia. for the bolts that came with the straps.

Like I said I never looked close to see if they have threads just figured they didnt.

And yes the spacing is off for ubolts.
you would have to squeeze the bolt a bit smaller to get them in the holes.
Would a cj 7 have more than 1 style yoke available?
Did they have 2 different yoke sizes like maybe for a 4cyl. ?

The 1310 cups fit in the yoke.

It does sound like it could be the wrong yoke. Just driving me crazy.....

I didn't know CJ7's had ubolts on the axles, the transfer case has straps. At least the 1982 D300 I bought does. I just had a similar problem, leaking around the yoke. I pulled it today, and it's leaking through the splines, not the seal. Easy to tell because the dust cover on the yoke was dry. Since I had picked up another seal I installed it anyway, there's plenty of room for 2, I left the original, it was only a couple of months old. FYI D30's, and D300's have the same yoke, same spline count and 1310 ujoint.

I changed the rear output on the D300 to a CV style from an XJ 231 front shaft, (again same spline and 1310 ujoint) When I pulled the yoke nut and washer off the 231 there was a rubber washer in there, cut to fit the splines. I've never seen that before. I also put some gasket stuff on the splines for good measure. So far no leaky. :)

I've gone into NAPA and asked for straps and bolts for these yokes and they came out with something too big to fit, sounds like you need the right straps.
