I need a little help. I forgot which way the seal in the timing cover (at the vibration dampener) for my 360 is supposed to face. Can someone give me a clue?

I thought that the open face of the seal faces toward the engine.

There is a tension spring around the rubber seal. The spring side goes toward the engine. The smoother side faces out.

Thank you. We're saying the same thing...but differently.

I destroyed the last seal trying to get it in so now I'm going to buy a new one. It started going in crooked and eventually bent.
