Well i got started on my Tub for the trailer yesterday. So far i have the front and sides done. Tomorrow i hope to get the floor cut and i can start welding it together. IT went together pretty easy, worst thing was having to take a hammer and bend down the edges. I knew the sheet metal brake i made would be too small for this. I got one side a bit warped from hammering the bottom lip buti beleive i can bring it back in straight when i weld it up. I am adding steel tube to the top and weld it to the outturned lip like the m416.

when you go to bend long edges like that, get yourself two straight oak boards and clamp on either side where you intend to bend. use a rawhide, plastic or clean wood mallet to work the edge over gradually working from one end to the other then back until you have the whole thing uniformly bent. you will not get the curves in it or leave hammer marks that way.

The curve isnt a bad thing actually, since it is going over round tubing. The hammer marks, eh i may add some putty to smooth.

I see. I do beleive i can pull it in. THe actual bend is the bottom part. Since i am using tubing to brace the top it should pull straight. We will see :)

    Here is tonights update.

I got the tailgate done, right now i jsut need to make the hinges and brackets to holdthe chains. I have to say doing the weld to attatch the tubing to the tub sides was frickin tedious. But the sides are welded up, i need to hit it with a sander to smooth it down. After i get the tailgate brackets and hinge done, all i have to do is go underneath and weld on some mounts to mount the floors to the frame. Next will be fenders but i have to really wait till i get the parts to make the axle and tires, so i can fab the correct width fenders. Here are some pics.

I got the tailgate done, finished all my welds and grinded and sanded down the sides. The tailgate comes off by sliding it to the side.

The galvanizeing doesnt cause any halucinations? They always warn against welding galv, but can it be any different than welding paint? Just grind it off.
