Disc conversion swap...can it be done with Jeep parts only?

Sorry for the thread if it has been discussed before, but I could only find information using Chevy & GM backing plates and various parts.

Does anyone know or has anyone done a disc brake swap on a Dana 25 or 27 using only Jeep parts, from some other model? :? Brakes and master cylinder swaps, if possible...I've only seen reference to D30's in my search results.

Any help or ideas are appreciated. Thanks

It can be done using '77-'78 CJ caliper mounts but these are getting darn hard to find. The later CJ disc brakes used a bracket that bolted into an knuckle- integrated mount so these won't work on a closed knuckle axle. Technically the Wagoneers and Jeep PU's used the same caliper mount as 1/2 ton GM's so that could still be considered using Jeep parts. The reason there is more info on the GM style caliper mount conversion is because they are much more available, generally cheaper, and the other parts like calipers can be had cheaply at any parts house. Regardless which conversion you use you will still need the conversion race to space the rotor properly to align with the caliper so that technically would not be using all Jeep parts.

Very interesting. Did you grind the inner pad at all? All the ones I've done if I didn't use the conversion race to space the rotor out the inner pad would hit the rotor and not allow the caliper to be installed. I've got the same set up front and rear on my CJ-5, on my Daughter's rear axle, and have done at least a dozen others and ran into the same issue on all of them. Are there certain pads that you used? Did you use maybe the 7/8" thick rotors instead of the 1 1/8"? I'm very interested in knowing what is different. Thanks. Nick

I just finished up the disc brake swap and the 11" rear drum swap.
I also followed everything as did member 1968JEEP.
I also read what was listed on the technical library.
I had no problem with interference. I did no pad grinding.
    I have a 59 CJ :flag:

I didn't have any clearance issues either. :)

FWIW, I originally bought the 7/8" rotors in error, and when I went to bolt it all up it looked like I might be completely out of piston travel once the pads wore down a bit. I didn't chance it, and went back for the thicker rotors.

I read the article and saw that they used all new parts. Does anyone have a source for the caliper mounting plates new? I have no yards around here to search through.

    Thanks,

Thanks for the responses guys...only reason I asked is because I have access to a parts inventory that's exclusively Jeep stuff.
