    Hi everyone,
Let me first say, this forum looks great! This is my 3rd Jeep, first being a Cherokee which I sold, current DD is a JK, and now I just bought what the previous owner guessed to be a 194X CJ2A.
It's going to need a lot of work, but I look forward to it and have access to many of the parts through my work.
I read through the FAQ pages on them, but am having a difficult time finding serial numbers. The only numbers I can find so far were on the steering box itself (7802287), and there were some stamped in to the rear tailgate lower hinges but those were hard to read as it has most likely been repainted a few times and they basically looked all like 8's and 3's! I am guessing that they said 823638 but as I said, they were very difficult to decifer. I'll have to get some other opinions from people in person. Is the steering box number perhaps a serial number, or is that just a number associated with the box itself?!
I hope these pictures work...and I know they're not the best, I can get more up. I've been told the windshield & frame look like they are from a CJ3B. Also, there is a solid tube axle up front, no 4wd...?!?!? and what looks like a Dana 44 in the rear. There's a Hurst automatic shifter in it as well...and someone swapped in a Buick V6.
Any additional notes or info would greatly be appreciated, and we'll go from there! Thanks!

Early CJ2A had 3 or more data plates. One or more plates located on the passenger side of the dash. A serial number plate located on the passenger side of the firewall (early CJ2A had serial number on the middle dash plate as well and body tag located on passenger side firewall; frame tag (with serial number) located on driver side frame rail behind front bumper. There is a good chance one or more of these are still on your Jeep.

Once you have numbers look in the technical library or ask here and we'll be able to determine more specifics.

Here are some shots of the Data Plates on my '47 CJ2A.

DJ-3a's had the fuel filler in the back and no tailgate. Guessing a 2a with a 3b ws frame and someone converted the front axle using a DJ axle. DJ-3a's were also 4 lug IIRC.

Won't be able to find a direct replacement soft or hard top with that ws frame. Could always have one custom made but the ws is much shorter so head room may be an issue. Shouldn't be too hard to find a 3a or 2a frame for it though if you are patient...

Thanks guys...I will be on the lookout for a 2a windshield frame or might just buy new. Thanks for the heads up!

Plans for the near future are to read up more and decide what I want to do. I still can't find ANY serial numbers...

I'm going to try to get the engine running (right now not getting any spark) and then most likely remove the tub and have it sand blasted, then do whatever body work it needs and have it painted. Then, most likely swap a real axle up front, find a transfer case, and go from there. Be on the lookout for updates! :)

I'm not sure what I'll do if I can't find serial numbers, and am debating with painting it the stock original color, or desert sand or something.
