Shimmy Update

    Hi, all.
A few weeks ago, I posted about the shimmy (vibration) in my jeep, at an idle and while driving.

Since then, I've bought and installed a new 401 harmonic balancer. No difference.

I checked for vacuum leaks, couldn't find any.

The jeep isn't running real smooth right now. I'm working out issues with a used Holley 600 carb that I recently installed.

Aside from the carb issues, I decided to do a compression test, and, depending on the results, a leakdown test.

We did a "double" test. First, we took out all the plugs. Then, we started with the #1 cylinder and let the engine crank 3 cranks. We recorded that number. Then, while in the same cylinder, we let it crank until it reached it's maximum pressure reading(about 5-6 cranks). That process was repeated for all 8 cyls.

After the 3 crank trial, 6 of the cyls. had 130 lbs. The other 2 had 127 lbs.
After the 6 crank trial, all 8 cyls read 160 lbs. I felt that pretty good about that.

Would it be a waste of time to do a leakdown test?

P.S. After I resolve my carb woes, I'm going to install a new clutch setup, including a brand new 401 flywheel(I'm not positive of the current flywheel, but the jeep USED to run smooth...)

    Sorry for the long post.
