I'm getting ready to replace my 9" brake assemblies with 11" assemblies, but before I do, I need to replace the oil seals on both front and rear axles. They are both leaking on the passenger side.

So, my question is: Are there outer seals on the front axle, or just the inner ones that you have to dissassemble the carrier?

The axles are stock for a 64 with the exception of a re-gearing by the previous owner, and I have no idea what they are. But, I'll be finding out if I have to remove the carrier assembly.

    Thanks

There are the axle seals behind the carrier bearings in the front and the wheel bearing grease seals. Locking hub gasket also.
In the rear there are the outer seal that the tapered axle hub rides in and the inner axle in the end of the tube right behind the axle bearing. No inner seal in the rear behind the carrier bearings. Nickmil

That's a great idea! I really don't want to take the carrier out if I don't have to.
