The rear bumper has got some dents and a little rusted spot. Im on break next week and i want to put a new piece of c-channel on and incorperate a standard reciver hitch onto it. Does anyone have pics of this done to their jeep? Im looking to get an idea on what kind of bracing i need to weld up.

The rear crossmember on my '71 CJ5 was shot, so I cut it out, replaced it with a piece of 4x4x1/4" square tube. It served as the bumper, hitch mount and crossmember.

If you cut yours out, be sure to take measurements rail-to-rail at multiple points so you get your new unit installed at the same location. (I failed to realize this when I did mine)

If all you want is a new crossmember,
there are also replacement crossmembers available from places like www.4wd.com
and Zach at A - Z Fab makes a heavy-duty one for TJs... he might be able to custom fab one for your 3B.

Here are some pics of my old CJ showing the rear bumper/cross:

My '71 had a rear mounted fuel tank so I didn't have to deal with the K brace.

You might also look at the Fabricators forum on this site. There are tons of pics there. Many of them are for a CJ-5, etc. but the dimensions are similar where they aren't the same so they may give some other ideas as well. Nickmil
