Nick's reply sets the record for brevity :)

I think you're really swimming upstream with the F134. If you like your factory drivetrain, great - they are very durable and forgiving motors. There's a T-98 that was a factory option, but parts to convert from a T-90 to T-98 are scarce and expensive. If you want a Muncie car transmission, the kit to adapt to your transfer case exists, and then you're better off to convert to a GM 4 cylinder (151, 153, 181) or V6.

Thanks, I guess I will have to wait for a t98. I'm patient.

Wouldn't the muncie be too long for the CJ? Shorten up the rear drive shaft too much I mean.:flag::coffee:

No, the long tailshaft housing goes away (replaced by a much shorter adapter), and the long main shaft is replaced. Still kinda long, but manageable.

Not cheap ($621 list), though you could probably get it a little cheaper from Herm or other retail sellers.

Tim's right, the Muncie will fit. I've had a Muncie M-21, Borg-Warner T-10, and Saginaw wide ratio trans in mine at different times (used to race and run lots of sand). The Muncie and T-10 are pretty long but do fit ok. The adapter is so long on those two because the reverse gear is in the tail housing instead of the main case so the adapter has to be longer to accommodate this. The Saginaw doesn't suffer from this as the reverse gear is inside the main case so total is about 5-6" shorter when adapted. To add what's been said, with the most available gearing of the T-10 and Muncie car tranny's they really aren't a very good choice for the trail, especially with a small motor. My 231 has been chassis dyno'd at 220 hp to the ground with the tires spinning in the rollers.... so they worked "ok", but I really hated the gearing. My saginaw has about a 3.5-1 first gear so is a good compromise for me between trail running and sand/mud, especially with 2.46-1 transfer case and 5.38 gears and 33" tires. That works out to about a 46.3-1 crawl ratio. It's a bit low for hard rocks but the CJ-6 has an 89.3-1 crawl ratio and with a simple transfer case gear swap I can go to 136.4-1 so that'll work fine between the two Jeeps. Nickmil
