I am looking for a standby engine to rebuild for my 68 CJ5. It has the 225 V6 in it and I have a guy that is willing to sell me a running 225 out of a jeep for $200. The engine runs but has a sticky valve and smokes a little out of the passenger's side bank.

Engine is being sold complete from the added electronic ignition to the headers.

    What do you think??

Check the compression and oil pressure. If good, then $200 is a fair price for a private party sale.

Hunter66, Buy it! They are getting hard to find around here. You do not care about compression as you are going to rebuild it anyway. I would check for any indication of a cracked block or head. Since it runs, can you run it for at least 15 minutes? That should be enough to show any leaks due to a cracked head or block. Of course there still may be other cracks like from valve to valve, but you will not find these until you take it apart. Unless the seller is in the business of selling used engines, you will not get a guarentee about this. If they are in the business the engine will cost more then $200.00. IMHO this is a fairly good deal. Matt W.
PS. BTW if you do not buy it, please let me know the sellers name phone number, and adress.

I'd say a fair deal. Headers and electronic ignition are worth about what you're paying for the whole thing....... At least around here. Nickmil

Grab it, then bring it down to AZ so I can use it.

No, seriously, if it runs, you've got the money and the space I'd go for it.

I'm now the proud owner a 67 Jeepster with running V6 drive train (76k original miles) (body shot) how easily will the entire drive train swap into my 67 CJ that presently has an F134 in it.

As long as it's not an automatic, pretty easily. The Jeepster uses a Dana 20 and a T-14 (?), so I think your best option is to use your existing Dana 18, and get a bull gear that will mesh with the Dana 18 and the 947382 bull gear with 10 splines. The Jeepster rear axle is centered, and the spring pads are in the wrong place for the CJ, so you probably don't want to use that. Pretty sure you can take the frame towers (motor mounts) and put them in the same location as they are in the Jeepster, and they'll be located correctly.

Novak has a swap guide that discusses placement of the engine - you could look that over and compare their locating suggestions to the location the Jeepster towers will give.

All in all, I think it'll be pretty easy, compared with other swaps.

Yeah, this deserves its own thread. I should have checked my post against the OP's.

Sorry, I got carried away. Let me redeem myself. I drove to Alabama weekend before last and got an allegedly running V6 for $100.00 w/an HEI distributer.

Back to hunter66"s original talk. My 225 had what appeared to be a sticky valve also, comp on #4 was down to 65lbs. Had set for 12 years. Took the advice of these jeep addicts and changed oil w/4qrts 30 and one quart of marvel mystery oil. It also smoked some out right bank. After running and reving up and down for about 30 minutes each day for four days the smoking stopped. When I took new compression test on #4 it reads 150lbs. Also some of the other cyls came up also.. Worth a try.
