Dana 25 powerlock

Hey guys I know some stuff interchanges between the Dana 25 and 27, but can I swap a powerlock carrier from a Dana 27 into my '2A with a Dana 25? I know I can get a lock-rite for my open 25 but I feel like I'm less likely to break an axle with a little give in the carrier instead of a full locker.

 

Someone correct me if I'm wrong (I'm sure I am)
Don't they have different spline counts and one ring gear larger than the other? Larger ring gear means bigger inside radius?
Boy and I own both of these axles...

 

sammy: the 25/27axles are both 10 spline, inner and outer.
the carrier bearings are different sizes

With some machine work to the bearing journal and case a 27 P'lock can fit in a 25 but not the other way around. 27 powerlocks are more plentiful than 25's because they were common in early Scout 80's and 800's as well as Jeeps. The 80's I think it was had 27's front and rear and frequently had Powerlocks in both ends and were 10 spline axles. Might try that application if looking for one for a 27. Nickmil

 

Not being a wet blanket, but wouldn't it be cheaper/easier to substitute a model 27 axle than to convert a 25? Around here the 27s are often swapped out in favor of the 30, so there shouldn't be any shortage.

 

A real jeeper has one 25 and a 27 minimum behind his garage.

you can't even find 4:88s for 27s...
stick with the 25

 

I did
