R)It's here in my side yard!!!
    1947 Willys CJ2
This is my first Jeep and my first build...EVER.
Gonna try to rebuild her, straighten her our, fix the cancer, media blast and prime, Luzon Red paint coat...Or 2 in my driveway. Some number of clear coats, rhino line the inside, set it aside.
Roll the chassis into the garage and get that build and sorted out (I'll do a European restoration I hope, just a sort out) send the block off to vat dip and most likely hone. It's god almost 0 compression, but not seized. Tranny and trans I'll try to see whats good bad ugly....I knocked the transfer case into engage...And it vomited oil all over the drive. Tranny locks into gear nicely. I'm 100% sure there's a blown head gasket. Because....It leaked from the engine a nice oil water combination. Re-arch the springs, axles are fine (I'll leave them open) probably POR the frame. And? More as it comes along.
    Now, without further adieu....
    Here she is!

    This is a D44 correct?

And what are these for? They're on both sides...

There's a little knob up at the top. what's that for? I can't get it out to get the body out.

    Looks like a good project!!

The "little knob" is the starter switch. Turn the key on and press it with your foot.

    1) no, D41,stock rear axle for CJ2A
    2) larger tube on rear of body has been added to the existing bow pocket
    3) the large pad is a foot rest, should be a nut directly under the pad you can get a wrench on, if I recall.
push start switch for the starter would be higher up near the firewall; you actually put your heel on the rest to reach the switch

I'm curious about the steering column and tube; Hudson steering had a chrome column, but requires a Hudson steering wheel; do you have another wheel for the Jeep, or did PO just chrome the tube ?

Thanks for your clarifacation. I was like that looks like a 44. But I read it could be a 41. Well where ever the switch it, I don't have it. there's a rats nest of wire and no switch up in the tub. The nest is in the engine bay. Uhm. What else... I got the pad off with a strap wrench. The body is now off. All of it. Except the Grille. Its actually pretty good just a little wavy and crooked.
As for the chrome tube I think the PO PO slid that on. It's weird I cannot figure out at all how to get it off. I got the wheel off (it's stripped =[) And to steer it your kinda gotta push the wheel on. The tub it held on by a nut with what looks like the colum in. The bottom of the tube that goes into the steering box is knurled if that counts for anything. Would you like me to get some more pictures for you? Easily done as soon as the rain stops. Which is like 5 minutes.

Yes!!! That "knob" is a rest for your foot. If you look at the picture really close, you see the holes for the starter switch above and to the right of it. Two small holes, ~3/8" and one large one, ~1".

That "knob" is a very hard to find part. Most have gotten knocked off years ago and never replaced. There are some 2A guys that would drool over it...

I'd like to get it off... How do I do that?

Large gas cap? It's about standard size... Smaller than the 59 CJ5 I looked at for a grand with a new glass body (doh!) I think it is a CJ2 because everything fits fine on it

I dug through the rusting bucket -more like swamp bucket with parts suspended in matter I would like to not know what-
    And took some pics
Some neat stuff-Turn signal lense, ignition (no key! dangit!) and these two plunger button like things. I think it's the red one for the starter peg. It doesn't compress though.
(shoot I keep forgetting my pics...)

the red button looks like the dash light for the gauges
should be an opening not shown in the pick where the bulb is exposed ?

I don't know if the column tube will pull up and off the shaft easily
that looks like a Hudson column to me
your wheel is splined; I don't see splines on the end of that shaft
if you loosen the clamp on the tube, will the tube unscrew ?

Didn't see any glass in it but it was getting knocked by parts so it was probably smashed in.
Maybe thats why it didn't steer so well into the driveway... Columns threaded and the wheels not. Well the thing is it was near my face when I sat in it, even with my long torso. So maybe a new column I can cut and take 3" out of? Was that chrome one a factory original?
I've tried it all.Un bolt pulling pushing knocking, The tube then slides but the shaft doesn't.
Is Midwestjeepwillys.com a good source for my parts/ gaskets? Or is my local Auto-Zone (vato-zone) cheaper? Also will need random stuff. Wire harness, cables, choke, levers on the dash, carb rebuild, new pistons for overbore, sending units from the tank, plumbing, a manual, can't find where the break goes to... Uhm, more random stuff. Auto Zone can get it for me you think if I get #'s?

I got the grille and radiator off today. I'm afraid of the rats nest of electrical it's got. Now....Can someone get me a picture of a correct grille, the front and rear bumpers (mines got that thing on the back thats welded really well, not sure what to to) and a pic of the frame with the front 2 cross members? I seem to have a strange cross member, it's odd and would like to compare to it. I can't seem to find a close up to any of them.

PS. Thanks if you do in advanced.

I didn't like the look of the slime water that came out of the radiator (just a little bit left over.

Looks like at least one more fairly rare part here...

That turn signal lense, if it was clear when new, is a hard item to find. One of the guys on the CJ2A page had some MADE UP, (molded) to look like those.

That red piece really looks like a dash light. It looks like the opening for the bulb is on the oposite side that the pic was taken. If so, they can be difficult to find too...

It would really be a gold mine if under the dash there was a keyed coil switch. It is an ignition switch mounted from the back side of the dash (key hole on the front side - of course!) with the coil sticking out the back of the switch. It would be about the size of a regular coil plus about 2 inches longer for the switch part.

    Keep on lookin

They're glass lenses and my grille has them, and I found that laying around. Should I take them off as not to get damaged?
That seems the only thing I got to accept a key. I can go out and take more pics of the stuff that was in the dash. The inside was stripped when I got it.
    Uhm.
What else. Oh yeah there's a heater for it with an electric fan and a mini radiator in it, not sure if it works but its got it. There's also a willys (so he told me) oil bath air filter cannister that was cut off the carb (hose was cut). It looks like a mini air cleaner off an old Peterbuilt. I'll get pics of those two too, but later. It seems like we have killer bee's in our back yard, got me once and just got my dad today, they hurt!
I got the seat frames, all 3 around. The foot knob I heard was rare too.
    Thanks! I'll keep digging

Probably a good idea. Be careful not to break them yourself! Glass is less forgiving than plastic.

Lol, I know from experience. Still got a piece in my foot from it I think (tried to dig it out. no pain when I walk, un bearable when I dig.) Plus no one has them so of course I'll be careful.
That light does have a bulb in it... I was wrong I admit it :)
Now, I can't find info on these, never seen anything similar to them either. First up.
-Oil bath air cleaner. What is it? Who made it? Available?
Next up-Heater of some sort for the inside. Got a little fan on the other side, looks like radiator fluid flows through it, and you open/close the vents. Can't see where it mounts.
I'll see what the radiator shop knows.
Last up-Locking hubs, my favorite. Never seen similar, it locks via flathead where my 2 fingers are pointing. Front only.
    Military?

There's also angle iron in the bed section just welded in, on the wheel wells, and on the bed, original? Or hacker welds. (can see 2 in the heater pics.)

Please does someone have a pic of rear frame/bumper original to CJ2's and a pic of the front cross members? I need to make new ones, but need to comapre. Thanks!
