At least I think that's what is is called.

Should there be a gap (in the pic) here? I was caught in a thunderstorm and the clutch shuddered badly. I normally get some of this but it became bad in the rain storm. After things dried out it was back to normal (which ain't so good) but I wondered if water would cause this?

Water or oil can cause a clutch shudder. So can worn/broken motor or transmission mounts. What is shown in the pic is the clutch inspection cover. Clutch cover is commonly referred to as a pressure plate.
That is not the correct cover for the scattershield or "explosion proof bellhousing" you have. That is the cover for the stock bellhousing. Wouldn't be hard to make a better fitting cover from some sheet metal to keep water from getting in there though.
Looks like a pretty good oil leak that should be addressed there. That'll cause far more problems with the clutch than the water will. Nickmil

I took note of the oil. I noticed a bit coming from the valve cover. The covers were quite loose. That ought to help.
I didn't know that was a some highfalutin bell housing. I did notice it's shape was different than I remembered. But I'm new to Jeeps and let it pass into the bucket of things I don't know, actually it's more like a barrel.

Thanks, I better get out the tin snips.
