I picked up a twin stick case cheaply last year, but it appears the shifter pivot shaft bolt head is broken. I assume this is a special bolt. If I can remove the shaft, what can I replace it with. I am planning to drill and try an EZ-out, if not then I will retap. If can not get the correct shaft, would a shaft with a cotter pin or short bolt on each end work, any problems with interference?

IIRC, shouldn't be any interference on the tranny side with a stock (small) 3-speed. If you use a big tranny like a T18 there will be interference on the tranny side... I think I even had to grind a bit on the tranny case to get the twins to fit.

If you are talking about the shaft the shifters pivot on it's not broken. The shaft is hollow, the hole in the end is where the grease zerk fitting would be threaded in. There are small grease holes where the shifters sit on the shaft to allow grease to lube them. These commonly get stuck in the bore of the housing. Sometimes they need to be driven out from the transmission side which usually means removing the transfer case. There is a threaded hole on the front of the housing that a set bolt goes into and fits in a slot in the shaft to retain it. The pivot is readily available from most of the usual suspects, Walck's, R&P, etc. as are new knobs. Nickmil

Yes, the shaft the shifters pivot on. So, I should be able to drive it out with a pin punch and maybe some heat? Set-screw is out. It has been sitting with PB blaster overnight.

Yup. They do get stuck sometimes. I've had to drive out a few over the years with an air hammer, but most of the times PB blaster or some heat and a hammer and punch does the trick. Nickmil

Tapped on it and it slid right out. Now to R & R my case and change it to a twin stick, along with new gaskets and seals.

My understanding is that it is OK to leave out the interlock pill?

    Thanks for the help!

Bad for the bank account and good for the retailers......

I'll probably be banned from the board for stating a huge controversial debate, so I'll recommend it stops here.......
