Just had my t14 rebuilt. Including new main shaft and syncros. Now it is hard to get into first gear and it wants to jump out of 2nd gear when I release the accelerator. What can be wrong ?

I had a '73 that did this despite multiple rebuilds. Made me crazy - and bankrupt. Finally turned out that the bellhousing was not perfectly aligned (concentric), and it caused the gears to "walk" out of mesh.

Fixed it using a dial indicator, and a piece of beer-can shim in the right spot between the bell house and the engine block.

This is just one possibility, but maybe it could be checked out.

    Good luck.

It's possible the 2nd gear bushing is worn just enough to cause this. What was going on before the rebuild? A bent shift fork or worn 2-3 synchronizer assembly could also be the culprit. Nickmil

Before the rebuild, I had to grind it thru the gears. I did not do the rebuild, but I know that the syncro clusters were replaced. Also the mounting bolts and bushing were replaced. (connection to the crossmember).

It should be noted that my right side moter frame mount is actually a left. The moter sits a little crooked but I've never had a problem with the thing poping out of gear by itself, untill now.

The guy who did the work says that I need to replace my right side frame mount with the correct mount, else the tranny is torking wrong and that's why I have a problem.

    What do ya think ?
