Could someone please tell me what type of nuts go on the shock towers for a 1956 CJ5?????

I believe that they are 7/16, but the thread is wacky. I've searched high and low at all the hardware stores and autoparts stores in my area, with no luck.

I would like to remove my "sturctural" zip-ties with acutal nuts to keep the shocks on the jeep!!

    Thank You!

Fine thread binds on the 2nd thread. Coarse thread is definately out of the question.

Are they maybe metric instead of SAE? or the other way around?
What happened to the original nuts?:?

No, not metric, I believe they're 7/16" NF, standard SAE fine thread. They're hard to find, because it's not a commonly used thread, but I did find some at Lowes. I think they were in the drawers of specialty hardware. I needed some to put on my shock studs when I had the frame powdercoated, to keep the powdercoating off the threads. If you're having trouble getting them on, you might need to wirebrush the threads real good, or maybe even dress them with a very small triangle file. Run a die over them only in the worst case scenario.

Looks like I will be heading to Lowes during lunch.. Thanks!

As for the missing nuts.... it's another one of those things that magically disappear from the jeep over time and hard trail rides ;)

Might have been Home Depot too, but I think it was Lowes.

I found some at my local Aubuchon hardware store. Grade 8 though.

IIRC, my original shock nuts have fiber/plastic locking inserts in them, I think. I was just looking at them this weekend.

I'd try Lowes. HD doesn't have 7/16" anything, at least the stores here. Local hardware and Auto Parts stores usually have them too. Might also try Feed stores that stock hardware. They usually have lots of cool oddball stuff. Nickmil
