The heater under the seat is gasoline fired. It was made by Hunter Mfg, who make a lot of tent and vehicle heaters for the military. It tees into the gas line and has its own fuel pump. The big pipe poking through the floor is the exhaust pipe. I couldn't get it to fire. Just as well, I suppose. I'm precariously balanced on the brink of homely already. Burn scars wouldn't do me any favors.

The radio has "Jeep" logo on it but it was probably a dealer install or previous owner did it. Knowledgeable members of this board say no Intermediate Jeeps had in-dash radios. I believe this to be true because the cutout hole has bare metal on the edge of the cut. I'd think all holes would have been punched in the dash before paint, but what do I know.

Intake manifold has quite a collection of cherry seeds, rodent poop, and acorns. When I degreased and hosed off the engine the front suspension gained 1/2" of clearance.

Something ate the front seat and threw it up again in the back seat. Had about a heaping shovel full of racoon turds behind the back seat. The floor mats are a heavy wool-type fabric that is snapped to the pan in sections. It cleaned up pretty nice at the car wash.

Soft top is pretty hammered. Too bad nobody makes replacement skins. The hardware is in great shape. I think I'll make the doors into half-doors just for kicks. I'll have to fabricate something for the latch to grab aholt of.

Nothin like sitting on a bomb.... But it looks like a cool idea. Wonder if you could swap out the guts in it with a heater core.... but cool jeep eh...

I suppose one could stuff a regular heater core in it but I'd have to destroy it to do so. I'd rather fix it or get it in the hands of someone who can appreciate it.

I don't have any heater in it anymore. The existing heater box was gutted and all cracked up so I scavenged the blower motor and threw the rest in the trash. Still looking for a heater assembly. This is a summer-only ride but I'll still want heat from time to time, I think.

Mine didn't work when I first got it but it "healed" itself once it realized I wouldn't play anything but Pure 70's Gold on it.

I may have changed my mind about this Jeep

I'd post more pics but the upload monitor gives me errors because I'm crowding 1MB. Which I don't understand because I resized my pics to around 3-4K each just now (originally loaded bigger versions but resized at photobucket just now). Even after resizing the upload monitor is showing me as nearly full. I figured I'd edit posts to delete the photos and reload but I can't even edit my own posts. What gives? I'm sure I saw an "edit" button on the bottom of my posts before but now I don't see it.

go to UserCP at the top left corner of this page in the tan area, and then on the left side menu, also tan, scroll down. There will be an option labeled "attachments" you can delete any attachments you have uploaded, but do not need anymore there.

Good looking, and pretty rare jeep

    OK, let's try this again:

Not as good up close and personal. Let's call it a 500-footer.

Really pleased with what I found under the racoon poop and fabric floor mats. Previous owners must have kept it in the garage. Got some small patchwork to take care of when I get around to the tub. I'll probably drive as-is for a year or so before tearing it completely apart.

Here's the dash after de-decaling it. Someone had the good taste to add "Space Crystals" stickers and other miscellaneous cereal box crap to it.

The last one shows where I used to throw money before I got the Jeep. 1995 FXD, 80", Wood W6H cam (240/240, 0.590 lift, VERY torquey), Mikuni HSR42 carb, Supertrapp 2-1, Axtell cast iron jugs, Wiseco 10:1 pistons, heads ported and polished, combustion chambers cc'ed to give about 9.75:1 CR, some ceramic coatings in heads and on pistons just for kicks (thermal management), Crane Hi4E ignition, single-fire mode, lots of crinkle black, very little chrome.

Jeez, I don't know, it looks to be in great shape. There's nothing wrong with yellow, I think I'd try to mask off the Superjeep decals and just shoot a fresh coat of yellow on the whole thing, maybe just a skosh darker yellow. Just a thought.

    Nice Hog too!

Someone mentioned on your original thread that Austin Jeep (?) has new decal sets for those too. Restoration to original ain't a bad thing, you'd be the only kid on the block with one like it.

I have to agree. The JEEP seems in decent shape. If it were me I would keep the trim package as well. But it is your JEEP and ultimately your decision.

Of the few I have seen they were white (ish) with the decal package. This is my first yellow one. I just assumed they were white. I guess it stands to reason that the package was put on different color JEEPS from the factory. Every once in awhile the decal packages come up on eBay as well.

I had some lowback seats on order from 4WDH (clearance specials, $90 per) but they called back saying they were out of them. Well, I don't abide that kind of treatment so I told them what they could do with my $180 worth of order...put it toward a $500 2-1/2" lift kit instead. The originals had sagged to the point of only having about 1" of travel to the bump stops.

Still contemplating the color. Can I love a yellow Jeep with pretty swirlies? Will I have to buy a second Jeep so I can paint it a "proper" color to sate the beast within? Will having a SuperJeep put me over-the-top cool? Will that level of coolness be ridiculous in its conspicuousity? Can the ladies hear a Mr Microphone over the sound of V8 through glasspacks? Too much to sort out at once.

Your Jeep, your choice and your decision. The fans of later model Jeeps won't understand, but the lovers of the earlies will dig it. I think you could learn to love a Jeep even painted flat black, it's just a color. Most of the best dogs aren't show winners, some of the best aren't even purebreds. Same with the ladies, know what I mean?
