:) Okay, i've read the tech section and i've read a million different posts. I have to ask because I can't find a firm answer. The parts list in the Tech section, if I remember correctly was for a Dana 27. I have a 1972 open knuckle Dana 30. Do I use the same parts list converting to disc? I hate to keep asking for help, but this along with the steering problem is pushing me toward the rubber room.

If you can help, I thank You:?

On the Dana 30 you can use the conversion that you see listed in threads covering this topic.
But..... you also have the option of using the knuckle off a 78-86 CJ with 2 bolt caliper bracket and you swap everything from the ball joint out.
Ask some CJ rock crawlers for they're left overs after they swap in a 44 or 60! :D

If you use the GM parts you need to re-drill the bracket as the GM studs are off exactly halfway between the Jeep D30 holes. This allows you to clock the bracket so you get the full turning radius. I got this tip from Nickmil. One photo shows the re-drilled bracket and the other shows the difference between the GM knuckle and the Jeep knuckle. I used a spindle as a guide for drilling the holes. The GM discs are much beefier than the Jeep ones.

So, could I just pull the knuckles, rotors and all and use them, all off of the same truck?:?

Is everyone that is doing the GM conversion drilling out the brackets. Couldn't you clock the bracket up a bit more? Does anyone have a photo of the interference?

If you clock the bracket up more then the caliper/bracket hits the balljoint and or boss for the ball joint. You also have to make sure the bleeder screw is at it's highest point or you won't be able to bleed the air out of the system. By clocking the caliper up higher you may not be able to get the air out......Re-drilling the bracket is easily done, use the spindle as a template.
On your drum brake knuckle there will be a little grinding to clear the caliper. The yellow paint in the pic shows the general area where this needs to be done. It really doesn't weaken the knuckle any as long as you don't get overzealous. Disc brake knuckles are cast with this area already clearanced.
You can't use the GM rotors as they are 6 lug unless you want to change to 6 lug, and you can't use the GM hubs as they don't interface with your outer axles. Basically, follow the write up or you will run into "issues" that can drive you nuts. Nickmil
