I purchase this jeep a few weeks ago and was having an issue with the front hubs not working. So I took them off and was expecting a 10 spline count and it was not. So I'm wondering over the years if it was upgraded. Does someone know what the spline count should be for a stock axle?

I think it is 10 spline inner and 19 spline at the hub.

I just checked again and its a 27 spline. I did count the splines on the axle itself not the part that goes over the axle that the hub gear slides onto to engage the axle.
This also seems to be the problem on why I don't have 4wheel drive. To temporary fix this I just pushed this gear over it by hand then put the hub back together in the locked position and will leave the hubs locked in all the time until I figure out why they wont lock in when you turn the hubs to the locked position. If that makes sense :)

Its a closed knuckle. I have a 80CJ7 with a Dana30 open knuckle to compare.

There were some rare Waggie/pickups that had a Dana 30 closed knuckle, only for about a year or two, right before they used the closed knuckle 44. Some of these had 27 spline inner and outer axles. The outers would interchange with Dana 27 outers as they were cardan cross joints like the 27. Sounds like you might have one of these stub axles.
