Look good. Are these different shades/colors or the same in different lighting? 004 looks real close. I may have to pull the motor from the Tuxedo and repaint it if this becomes available. I used TAPerformances paint which came in a Krylon can ( IIRC ) and there is NO metallic in it, Iwas/am dissappointed cause I am trying to do this resto as original as possible. Thanks for all your work. PM sent.

All of the pics show the same test pattern against the same valve cover. The only change is the lighting, which is stated below the picture. 002, 003 and 004 all use outdoor lighting. 006 was shot indoors against a not very well thought out backdrop.

I was just reminded that my earlier posts didn't include how or where the engine paint could be ordered. The folks that formulated it is AutoColorLibrary. Their website is http://www.tcpglobal.com/autocolorlibrary/. The code that they assigned to the paint is AE-TCPE66-71(B). Hope this helps.

My remaining original paint doesn't appear to be a dead-on match to the test pattern, but to be perfectly honest I think that is due to 37 years of fading and contamination.

Coincidentally, however, it does appear to be darn near identical to the "Hampstead Green" color. In person, I can't visually discern between the two. I am going to say at this point that the test pattern, for all practical and probably even restorative purposes, is as good as it's going to get.

I also still think GM200 shown above is *really* close, although my paint man tells me that's not probable given the special make-up of the paint code.

Beeser did the leg work. Headin' your way next (Spoon), if you haven't already got it.

Clint - Thanks for getting back to us with your observations. I was waiting to hear from someone that received a test pattern before weighing in with my own comments. I have to agree that the test pattern doesn't quite match the original paint on my valve covers either. Very close but seems to lack a very small amount of blue IMO. Jim Chips at AutoColorLibrary says he can add a little blue but the color difference may be the result of age and application. What do you all think?

:iagree: I was actually going to say exactly the same thing. I dunno. My stuff is really aged. Maybe wait 'til we can put it next to Spoon's or MOP's.

That test pattern you sent me is VERY close to the Hampstead color.

Sounds like a good plan. Besides MOP, I also sent test patterns to Warloch and wheelie. Hopefully, they will be able to add their comments.

I sprayed my new transmission with a can of Rust-Oleum that I had in my garage and damn if it isn't identical to the paint on the inside of my bellhousing shim! The color is 7219 Verde Green Hammered.
Even if it isn't EXACTLY correct it is so close and so easy to find that it is worth your consideration.

That does have a texture to it though doesn't it? Even if the color is close.

Dumb question - What do they put into the paint to give it a hammered look?

We wouldn't be doing that here though since it's the restoration section. ;)

    I know . . . I know . . .
And I really admire you for keeping your rigs original!

Maybe that is why I lurk around this section . . . Maybe my next Jeep will be all original.

He's a pic of my trans . . . Just for fun! :AMC:

No one ever accused mine of being original, at least I hope not. It's got three or four generations of CJ rolled into one vehicle. This section is specifically for that purpose though. Everything else can go in the general tech section.
