    does anyone know if a 1964 v6 out of a buick Skylark is the same engine as a v6 from a 1968 cj, odd fire and all?

    Not all 225's were created exactly equal. I know that the first 225's that came out still had a slightly different head design with smaller exhaust valves similar to the 198. All things considered equal after that....yes they are the same.

    I think the one in my 58 came out of a 64 or 5 skylark iirc...

    Don't forget if it's a 198 it has a different bellhousing bolt pattern as well. Nickmil

    Yes, but we were talking about 1964 225. The 198 is for the most part a totally different beast.

    198 was 62/63 years.

    I had one (198 ) so it's easier to remember such things. ;)

    Can't hurt to be careful, but GM seemed to do a better job at not mixing and matching stuff like Jeep did so if it's in a '64 Skylark I'd expect a 225.
