i just installed a lockright in my friends 53 cj3a. his jeep is stock except for 12 and one wire alt. i was told that the t90 trans is n ow the weak link. i have a 350 sbc and went to a Saginaw 4 speed before i installed my lockright, advanced adapters told me with the 350 the trans would break, is is true with the little flathead 4 banger.

Shouldn't be a problem. Theoretically you aren't able to apply any more force to the tranny now than you did before the Lockrite.

the t90 will last with a 350 but it takes a light foot. but posi is right having the locker wont reall make it the weak link. i think a ujoint will go and snap before the tranny

sounds good. i was thinking the same thing, the little 4 banger shouldn't have that much torque.

did you do a front or rear? Im thinking of geting one for the front that way it will retain its street manners and i will have three wheel drive. All the weight is on the front where it counts anyway

i did the rear. i did the rear of my 55 years ago and it works great. id wouldn't do one in the front of mine because of the dana 25 carrier being the weak link. i got lucky and found a new powerlock for the front dana 25, it works great.

My stock 3b has D44 rear axles. if i installed a detroit ez locker in the rear only, how would it affect the vehicals performance on the streets? I'll be using the jeep for street and trail.

the rear EZlocker will take a little to get used to. firswt off you will hear clicks and bangs, this is normal. at first you will be freaked out and think something broek bigtime, but itis the locker unlocking especially when applying power around a corner. And take care in wet pavement it can fishtail more if you are not being careful. but once you get used to the little things it rides fine.

A locker of any kind will take a little getting used to...try and remember that both tires will turn the same speed under power, but one will spin faster than the other while coasting...but never slower. Therefore, altering driving habits will minimize the locker's characteristics...try to coast around corners if possible and learn to anticipate the locker "butt wiggle," which is the norm in a short wheelbase like ours. That wiggle can be minimized by keeping the tires at exactly the same pressure and rotating regularly.

It seems like good logic to install a locker in the front of a daily driven rig but not the rear...and that is true...to a point. However, in most cases you are climbing an obstacle rather than descending, and as such, the vehicle will more greatly benefit from a rear locker due to weight transfer and a multitude of other factors. Conversely, a locker in the front will hinder manueverability (turning) a lot for the same reasons regarding power vs. coasting. I could go on, it just depends on how deep you want to get. And I speak from experience, not theory.

the 53 cj3a that i just installed a lockright in, the rear dana 44, i hardley notice. my 55 has one in the rear 44, but then im also running a 350 sbc and the 53 has the stock flathead 4. i think that power from my 350 makes the difference. but even with the 350 its not bad, i do know its there but its worth it.

If you go with this style locker I'd recommend the Lock Rite or Aussie Locker. Seen too many of the EZ lockers broken. They don't seem to hold up as well as the other two under the same circumstances. Nickmil
