Heres some pics of my engine before and after. As you can see it was pretty bad but i drove it for 4 years before i redid it. The oil resembled rice pudding and nearly all of my piston rings were shatered in many pieces. The block was cracked also. But it still ran pretty good right up to the end:)

Thanks guys! I removed the msd box because it kept burning up my rotor and cap and i couldnt figure out why. The whole system is much simpler without it anyway. The remote oil filter i dont remember where i got it but you can probrobly find one in jcwhitney or jegs or northern tool.

oh yea, whats the smaller air filter for? and did you do the work yourself or did you have the motor sent out for rebuilding and paint?

I just like the look of the small filter it lets you see everything better :) I had a machine shop rebuild it. I painted it though. It had a big crack in one of the cylenders between the cylender and the valve seat and right down the cylender wall so they fixed that and everything else. I wanted it done right the first time. It is also boored out .06 over original. When i tore it apart i saw that it had already been boored .04 over. They sell pistons for up to .08 over so maby in another 50 years or so :)

So, the big question is...What did that type of rebuild cost you? Did you have to trade the BMW?

Your engine looks great! Looking at the before pics and the oil (rice pudding) could be caused by not having the pcv valve between the valve cover and intake manifold. You may get similar results after all that work.

The machine shop bill was about 1500$ then i put another 2 or 3 hundred in various other stuff. Including having the exhaust manifold welded where it cracked and a new poly gas tank. I probrobly could have swapped in a 4.3 v6 rebuilt for that cost but im glad i stuck with the original engine. And no i did not sell my bmw I actually just bought a porsche 911 :) I dont think the pvc system does mutch. I put a filter ont he breather hole so there isnt crankcase preasure build up. Im sure the large crack from the waterjacket to the crankcase had a good part in making rice pudding out of the oil haha

Guys im still having a problem with the cap and rotor burning. It stalled out of the blue today and i got nothing not even a putt. Its still sitting out in the woods actually. Anybody else run a petronix ? Do i need a ballast resistor and if so what ohms and where. Hopefully its not fried or ill be putting the points back in and that will tell the tale. Its like it sparks for too long and burns the trailing edge of the rotor and cap.
