another what the heck is this post

    what the heck is this? By the way i installed the ignition switch and now johnny starts up right away with no need for the coil switch, best 16 bucks i ever spent.

    It's a diagnostic connector to hook a scan tool to so you can interface with the vehicles ecm (electronic control module). Don't mess with it unless you are having issues and have the correct scan tool to hook up to it. It requires a special adapter and soft ware and about a $4,000 scan tool. Nickmil

    what would it read i got a motor craft ignition module ($30) and a carb with an electronic choke ($200)and some turn signals. i'm engagued in project trim the fat, with the wireing do i need that thing

    Going from memory and the fact you have the diagnostic connector, that year of CJ should have had an electronically controlled carburetor. The ECM would read factors like vacuum, O2 sensor readings, etc. and adjust the carb's mixture control solenoid for correct fuel to air ratio. These systems were an early attempt at emissions and with time and higher miles became very problematic. It's common to swap out the carb to a non computerized version so it wouldn't be surprising if that's been done already. If you don't have any wiring coming from your carb then it's probably been changed already. Nickmil
