first id like to say hi to the forum, haven't been here in years. well i messed up today, tried to pull some kid out of the sand, buried up to the axle. snap goes the front powr-lock. i have a pretty new powr-lock that i bought off the willys tech. site about 8 years ago. for my dana 25 front 10 spline. well trying to snatch the truck out of the sand with my jeep and i heard something go snap. ive check and my front driveshaft turns, i jacked the rear of the jeep up and put it in four wheel drive and i can watch the front driveshaft spin. i looked inside the front and see bits of metal in the bottom of the case and i can see something broken in the center of the powr-lock. ive found a used powr-lock listed for a dana 27 and the place says it the same as my powr-lock in my dana 25. the place also said someone was still making powr-locks for the older jeeps. first question is im thinking that maybe i could buy the powr-lock for the 27 and take the parts off it i need for my powr-lock in my 25 or if some one knew of the place that still makes them i could just buy the parts i need. ive spent hours trying to find some where to gets parts but haven't been able. any one able to help me out with this. first time ive broken anything on my jeep in 12 years.

the internals are the same: spiders, side gears, shafts, etc.
    the case is different
you could gut a 27 powerloc to repair a 25 powerloc

I think you need to pull your Powerlok and see just what went south on you. That will greatly affect what the availablity of parts is. Clutches should be no problem. Spider gears for a 10 spline you will only find used, if at all. You may find its the center pin. That might not be too tough to find. Here's some more possible sites for parts:

    Randy's Ring and Pinion http://www.diferentials.com/

    West Coast Differentials http://www.differentials.com/
Good luck and let us know what you find.

yeah, thats what i really need to do first. i jacked the rearend up, put it in low 4X low and watched the front driveshaft turn. when i popped the front cover i found metal in the bottom of the case and could see in the deep middle of the power-lock what looks like something broken.

thats what i need to find out jpflat2a. im thinking it might be worth it to buy a 27 powerlock to use the parts in my 25 powerlock.

i have a powerlock from a dana 27 in my dana 25. there were modifications to be made, but it was done and has been working perfectly for over 5 years and it takes the abuse of snowplowing. here's an old thread discussing it....

but if your 25 powerlock case is in good shape, i would reuse that case with 27 internals (if you can't find 25 internals) - if they in fact are the same.

    What Jpflat2a said.
The parts are not available new any more except for the clutch packs. The clutch packs for the 27 and 25 are the same as for the Dana 30 power lock so those are pretty readily available. The guts for the 27 and 25 Powerlock are interchangable. I've had them apart side by side on the bench and compared them and there are no differences in the guts. The case is what is different. With some machine work, as said above, a 27 powerlock can be used in a 25. 25 and 27 powerlock parts are getting pretty scarce so if anyone knows some sources I'd love to hear from them! first id say thanks to everyone who replied. i talked to hearm and he has any and every part i would need to rebuild my power-lock. the really good news for me is that once i found that out i pulled my unit out, and low and behold, i had a broken axle, drivers side inner. snapped the splines off the end. ill tell you all i felt like the luckiest guy in the world, took the power-lock apart and found no damage or unusable wear. just so happen i have an extra set of axles in my shop, so i swapped out the inner and put here all back together. went for a test run and everything worked great. all and all it cost me $10.00 for limited slip oil. that hermtheoverdriveguy is a life saver. nice to know that if i had broken side gears or cross shafts he has them. it was going to be that or run a open diff. in the front. i just dont trust the stock dana 25 with a lock-right. i know people run them but there just to small. at least with a power-lock i only have a posi instead of a locker up front and its plenty strong. oohhh i love my jeep. thanks again.
