I've been searching all over the place for a backing plate for my '57 CJ5. I need one for the front driverside.

I've finally found one online, but the guy isn't very specific. From the photo it looks like its the same. He said it was installed on his M38A1, but originally came off of a '44 or '45 2A. They should all be the same as my '57 right?

I don't believe the Military MB/GPW will be the same as your '57. I seem to recall the military brakes were anchored by a pin where the end of the shoes slid over the pin on the bottom end and your standard Lockheed brakes on your '57 rest on a stop on the backing plate. I'd call R&P at 503-557-8911, Krage, or one of the other vendors. I know R&P had a whole bin full of those backing plates a while back. Nickmil

I',m pretty sure I have some 9" backing plates from a 63 if they are the same. If you are interested, send me your email address, and I will send you a picture.

I also have some complete 10" and 11" if you want to go larger.

I agree, if you arn't restoring, then go with the 11'" waggy brakes. Upgrading to a dual MC isn't a bad idea either.
