I have not, but the racecars with front 30s (in the 70s) used dual shocks (infront and behind the axle) positioned similarly to the result shown in the link. However, these cars used a tower that required the fenders to be cut - more vertical.

I think the bracket should fit ok, and you could turn your spring plates around (with some drilling and filling) so the shocks are in front of the axle or behind. However, I'd worry that this won't work on Jeeps with narrow track axles. The 85 will have wide track axles which may help with clearance to the shock mount when one side is stuffed and the other hanging - this may not be ok even on 76-81 CJs.

It is on my to do list but most likely wont get to the top until around Jan. or Feb., i guess that is one good thing about being on chemo, you cant really break the jeep any more if you dont drive it and if you dont have the energy to do all the little mods you can save up for some bigger ones.:)

The main reason for doing it is to get a longer travel shock. Which unfortunatley with the older CJs still sprung under the shock usually isnt the limiting factor in the wheel travel. When you go SOA you usaully get alot more articulation, resulting in needing a longer shock. Are yours bottoming out/extended all the way now??

I think it needs to go like this. 1st measure your up and down wheel travel exactly where your shock is going to be. 2nd, determine a shock length. 3rd, figure out where your shock mounts need to be. 4th, if you are lucky you can use an already made mount like a ford. But if you are like me, you will have to make them.

I'm w/ Jason. You'd need to be SOA for that to be any benefit. One thing I would add to the write up is to sleeve any bolts running through a boxed frame. If you don't the frame will eventually squeeze and the shock tower will become loose and likely break.:v6:

Or have long travel springs like Holbrook's, Dakota Springs, Deaver's, etc.
