I have read alot of previous posts about the Mojave or HeaterCraft brands of aftermarket heaters. I am wondering if they are worth it or not. Boyink did you ever install yours? I was looking at that same model. I am ready to make an upgrade in my heat. Just want to make sure they are worth the money. Any help is appreciated.

i have the motor craft heater in mine. i bought the jeep without even a cowl plenum, so my install was a little unique... however it puts out plenty of heat. now if i only had a top to keep the heat in.

I have a soft top and a wind jammer so I think I should be alright if I go with this option. The OE heater just dosen't seem to cut it. It pushes out some hot air just dosen't do to well.

Well....it's the classic case of scope creep.

The PO put in gauges where the defrost duct needs to run...so a new dash was in order. The PO also had the steering wheel crooked so I had to pull and reset the steering. The new position of the steering wheel allowed a different gauge arrangement...so I ordered new gauges. Then I decided to change all the switches (headlights, wipers, etc) to toggles and centralize them. I'm also going to use some of the dash-mount heater vents from heatercraft.

I got as far as getting all the parts together and the new dash ready for paint...then it was late spring and the house projects started (roof, toilets, carpet, lights, cement, landscaping, sprinkler work, pantry re-do, yadda yadda yadda)...and that's where the Jeep sat all summer. Still want to get the house painted and some river rock brought in before the snow flies - not sure what that's going to leave for Jeep project weather.

I have a feeling I'll be putting together a paint booth of some sort this winter -once the dash is back together the next project (fuel injection) involves painting all the parts before installation as well - then there's springs from Dutch, the military hood.....)

I have the mojave heater in my 5. It is a little (well ok alot) noisier than i like when it is on high speed but it is very rare that i turn it on high unless i dont feel like putting the doors on on a cold morning. When the top and doors are on that thing will cook you right out of the jeep even when it is really cold out.

Actually, I have had good luck converting early Ford heaters, especially Bronco, in Jeeps. They are a simple bolt in box that looks a lot like a 72-75 heater. It will bolt up under the battery box and provide defrost and heat on your feet. I've run a Early bronco heater in my rig for almost twenty years and been happy. I'm not sure how much they go for now, but a quick call to Toms Bronco parts in medford Or(I used to be a mechanic there, good people)could get you a price. Otherwise, any mid 60's to early 70's ford heater should work.

My '73 CJs PO had put in a Mojave. I got my CJ recently. It hasn't gotten real cold in Chicago yet, but so far so good. The Mojave is compact and simple.

Ok I see this is a replacement or a additional heat source? If it is a replacement I am wondering how the installation, and what modifications are involved.

The '75 original heater isn't bad; if it has a 30 yo core, you might get a lot better performance if you replace it with a new, clean, unclogged core.

There are some articles out there about upgrading the blower motor on the later CJs - might also work for the intermediates. More air will make your defroster work better at least, and should give more heat too.

You should also run the right thermostat - a 195F IIRC. No heater will work well if the coolant doesn't reach operating temperature.

In the process of doing my new engine swap I have pulled all the heater parts out of the jeep (it wasnt working anyway) and plan on mounting the computer and relay box from The Detail Zone to the firewall under the dash. Here in southern New Mexico we only have a coupe months where it gets really cold. If I do decide I need a heater again I plan on getting a 12 volt electric heatre I saw somewhere called the "Back Seat Heater" and I'll mount it on the trans tunnel against the firewall, should do the trick. I run canvas half-doors and a bikini top year round, so as long as it's enough to keep my frrt from freezing to the pedals I should be ok.
