Axle suprises

Here is something that the old time dirt track racers used.Instead of welding the spider gears which potentially weaken them, They would pour the houseing full of melted lead.The effect is the same.There is not enough temp. to make anything weak and it could be reversed simply by melting the lead out with a plumbers torch.

 

figures the drivers side would be the spicer, i just broke my bendix-weiss drivers side, well i didnt break it, i sheared off the splines. thats why i looked high and low for a old 10 spline power-lock, and found one, new. i put a lock-right in the rear figuring a dana 44 would be plenty strong enough to handle it but the dana 25 carrier is to small, i already broke one. hermtheoverdriveguy has power locks for the old jeeps. ive been running one in the front for years with good results. you can also check ebay, even if you find one for a 19 spline you can buy the side gears for a 10 spline, or what ever spline you have, but yeah i had to remove the rear carrier and the ring gear from the carrier to install the lock-right. it works though, kinda of noisy, lets everyone know you have a locker. id keep my eyes open for a power-lock for the front.

 

Where can you find 10 spline side gears for a 44 Powerlock? I've been looking for 2 years for a customer from Germany with no luck. Nickmil

 

try hermtheoverdriveguy.com he said he had everything i needed for my 10 spline power-lock for my dana 25. im sure he has them for the rear dana 44. i called him.

 

Hows it doing now after two years?
