My jeep was made in Sept 70 by AMC. It is registered as a 71. It is a Renegade I {made in 70}. The color is a Renegade II color {Riverside Orange or Big Bad Orange}? It has a charcoal painted hood blister on the center of hood {Ren II}. Kelsey Hayes 15x8 inch steel wheels {Ren I}.

'71. Model Year switch occurs in August. Strange it has Ren I. decals. Could they be replacements? Maybe the Ren II decals weren't ready for the early part of '71 production?

I agree, interesting. I too would lean in the direction of the '71 considering the difficulty in changing the registration or title description. The RI decals could've been changed or Jeep may not have had the new decals early in the production run as mentioned. Or they may have just used leftover stock. Same may be applied to the wheels. I believe it was Foster or Allen who stated that limitied availability of the aluminum wheels was the reason for using the steel ones.

I would agree with beeser on AMC using left over stock. Or JEEP's on the production line when AMC took over?
Check out mnemonic76 he has the same JEEP 169 VIN#'s later.

Could very easily have been a '70 model that was titled as a '71. Not sure when they stopped doing this, but it was certainly a common practice back in the day.

August31/sept1 was the break between model years, so you are well past the beginning of the 71 model year
