anyone do this, i know it was never factory on the cj5's but i think it would be cool looking. i would have to modify the front shovel mount to get it to fit, and plus it would cover up the mangled up sheet metal.

    anyone have any pics? photochops?

Makes perfect sense to me. I always thought Jeep could sell a lot of more vehicles if they came equipped this way from the factory.

Remind the public which 4x4 went ashore on D-Day, and is still going strong.

    Hey there,

Just a suggestion for mounting your axe/shovel. Take a look at your local Fire Dept. to see how they mount them on the Engines. I'm a Firefighter and am going to use the same "clam style" spring clamp axe mount as we use on the fire engines. They're simple, low profile, lightweight, and they hold well.
You can get 'em in chrome or paint them. I'll try to find some pics and post them.

    Good luck!

For the shovel - I have a military hood with a shovel mount inside.

X2, recently had one donated to the cause (also gives me a snorkel cutout for "Boyink-Like" projects;) )

I keep a shovel mounted on my MB. I'm planning on adding an axe, I just haven't bought one yet.
For the shovel, rather than buying the proper staps, I just used a u-bolt from the hardware store with lock washers and one wing nut on the inside of the Jeep. So if you're not opposed to drilling holes in your Jeep, this would be the El Cheapo method. I used a grinder to make a small groove in the handle. It holds plenty tight and I can remove it without tools.

I have a pioneer rack off a wc-62 WWII army truck. When I was in highschool, I mounted in on the back of my truck tool box. It looked and worked pretty well. I heard of a guy that mounted in on tailgate of his jeep. They said it looked pretty well. What's good about the pioneer rack is that it mounts the tools (axe, shovel, and Pic) real compact. You can even rig up a lock to keep people from steeling them. If you have your tire on the back of the jeep, you could mount it on the inside of the tailgate.
