I wouldn't think the wheel cylinders would work, they should be larger with larger brakes. I haven't priced a Solex lately, but that seems like a fair price. I don't understand the core charge, they're selling you a brand new carb, not rebuilt, which is when there would be a core charge. What kind of trails will you be on? Hilly or flat? The Solex carb is bolt on with a little linkage work, not much. Very easy.

maby it doesnt have the stock axles or you have an overdrive. I can drive my 2a up a slight grade at idle with everything stock and 35" tires. You can find much of the parts you need on ebay for cheaper then any online stores. good luck

I don't know man, but I think I'm gonna slide into Kamel's camp on this one. Unless you're really wanting a project to work on and sink $$$ in, you might be better off selling those and picking up a different Jeep that's not so rough and needy, and somewhat more reliable. You don't really want to break down on a trail somewhere with your wife and toddler, do you? You're talking about doing a lot of work as cheaply as possible, trying to make a good rig out of two clunkers, and I'd be worried about reliability.

And I'd agree, you should be able to walk alongside that thing while it's idling along in 1st gear, 4 low.

    Thanks for the info guyes,

I have swaped out everything useing the better parts from each.

The only thing left is carb, brakes, and however much body work I'm willing to do.

I agree with some of you, I wish I hadn't bought the CJ's, but once I got them home I couldn't make my self haul them up to the grave, especialy with the one runing and driveable minus brakes.

At least, I will have one useable vehicle with good frame, difs, springs,etc..

This way I can possibly get my money back out of it, minus my labor, I'll chalk it up as a learning experience.

A friend of my fathers has a early 80's S10 V6/standard shift he bought new but doesn't use anymore, I can get it for $500.00, it is street worthy, not sure how capeable it will be with a lift and decent tires.

Anyway, this is an awesome forum, thanks so much for your time and information.

It seems to me you're doing the right thing in taking the usable parts and making one Jeep. No matter what path you take $$$$ are going to be involved, whether a small or large amount. Finding an already complete, not needing some kind of repair, usable 4wd for cheap would be nice, I don't think that's realistic though.
