    Greetings

While I usually toy with Wagoneers and CJs, I've always wanted to bring some older iron onto my Jeep Ranch.

Got a pretty decent deal on a trannyless '68 CJ5, a redone NT D30, and this tired beauty:

It's a '68 V6, TH400 model, and in need of more than its share of new sheetmetal, fluids, copper, time, blood, sweat, and tears. The floors are effectively gone... both seats are bolted to a piece of plywood that isn't bolted to anything else on the vehicle. At least the frame, doors, and front clip are solid.

Scary part... it runs and drives pretty well, a little smoke at startup, but no tranny slippage. Stopping, well, not so much.

For whatever reason, I bought this with plans to resto-rod it into a family fun and trail vehicle.

Plans are to keep the powertrain after a thorough going-over and conversion to electronic ignition (maybe TBI as well?), complete new exhaust (x-over duals?), complete home-rolled rewire, reinforce the frame, install wagoneer axles with about 33-35" rubber on a modest lift with the wagoneer springs, saginaw PS, cage, soft top, and maybe even a floor and interior if I find the time.

Looking forward to sharing progress sometime in the coming months, and considering I'm just about a complete Dauntless and early CJ/Jeepster neophyte, getting plenty of tips, info and know-how from the fine folks here.

The more I look at this project, the easier/better it seems to just plop the body down onto a shortened rolling Wagoneer frame.

It may have been at one time... I got it off another fellow that lives closeby that also buys and sells a lot of Jeeps and parts.

Already have the nearly clear frame from an '88 sitting around. The frame on the Commando is in pretty good condition, but I figure why put in the work - outboarding, boxing, saginaw, etc. - essentially making it into something I already have?
