    i will double check the VIN pdf, but didn't find that info. i checked out nada.com for a value, and the difference between a 1969 and 1970 (according to them) is around $10000.00. money is tight, it's been one of those years. and the toys have to go.

    $10000.00 for ANY ECJ5 is alot of money! I can't even recall a CJ-5 that sold for $10000.00 alone, let alone was worth $10000.00 more than another!

    As I said there is no difference between a '69 and '70 and '71. They're the same Jeep. The '70 and '71 could/would have a stronger rear axle but not for $10000.00 and that won't even factor in to the overall cost of the Jeep IMO. I'm hoping that this is a typo and you meant $1000, but even at that, the year won't matter for price at all.

    If you think you can price it using nada.com good luck, I don't think that site has anything to offer for a vehicle this old. See the thread about "How much is my Jeep worth". The overall condition and your location are what will determine the price. The years have no determination that I've ever seen.

    although the deal with AMC was done early in the 70 model year, they still had Kaiser on the number plates for quite some time, prolly till they ran out of the old ones.

    Your VIN places it right about the time of the model year change between 1969 and 1970. Either way, I'm pretty sure it would have been built while still under Kaiser ownership, but that matters little. 1969 or 1970, it's really all about the same.....

    OK, Maybe someone can help me figure out what kind of jeep I have. I do know the title says the jeep is a salvage vehicle. The California title says 1962 CJ-5 but the vin plate is not on the firewall at all. Infact, the vin plate is inside the body by the seat belt retractor on the passenger side of the vehicle. The vin says 57148 87673. If I read the last five digits correctly, the jeep is actually a 1959. Can anyone help me with this little mystery?

    :)

    IIRC that is where the data plate is placed on the M38A1's. Is there a circular indent on the passenger side of the cowl area? It might help if you post a picture of your data plate.

    Thank you for your information. Yes there is a circular indentation on the passenger side. While I cannot post a picture of the vin plate at this time, I will try to post some attachments of the jeep itself.

    I can't seem to find what I'm looking for by doing a search on my VIN. Hopefully someone can help me. I'm looking for a manufacture year on my willys. The Vin is 57548 109398. I was told it was a 55 but unsure. Thank you. Tim.

    Re: Where's My VIN? (New VIN Project, Please Help Out)

    Your VIN is 11 digits, so there are some codes you need to ignore (the ones labeled for 13 digit VINs only):

    83 = Universal CJ-5
    05 = Open Body
    S = Smog
    237956 = Sequential Serial Number.

    This likely makes your Jeep as a 1968 model. I don't have every good data for 1968, but $ Sink might have some input.

    about the only thing I can add is that it was built in the early part of the 68 model year, probably last couple of months of 67. info from 68 through AMC takeover of Kaiser is real scarce. please post some details when you get time, engine, rear, etc

    I am inheriting a CJ5 with a VIN 8305017374874

    I don't know anythign about it other than it is red and apparently a 1971. I haven't even seen it in 10 years. I know it is in very good condition.

    If anybody can give me any information on it, I would really appreciate it. I don't know much about Jeeps (especially the older ones). Who made it? When was it made?

    Welcome from Minnesota.

    Yes, according to the VIN it IS in very good condition.

    Just messin' with ya.

    Built in April of '71. 225 V6 with emissions. Not much else can come from the VIN. IIRC AMC had taken over production by then. If it has a paint and trim tag you can tell original paint color, seat color, and whether it had bucket or bench seats. It's all in the VIN document referenced on the first post in this thread.
