I was driving the jeep across the field just a few minutes ago, stopped it to check on the cows, got back in and when i went to pull out it made a chunka chunka chunk sound and then it locked up,so i put it in low and tried to see if i could just move it a little bit and it wont go anywhere. The main bearing was making some noise before but just a few slight noises once and a while. I probally shouldnt've tried to move it after it locked up though. Any ideas on what went wrong???????

Locked up? Engine runs I guess, but Jeep won't move? Main bearing as in transmission? T-case?

Yeah the front bearing in the transmission was making some noise just before it happened,im assuming that let out and the shaft kind of went sideways??????

Trying to diagnose that is just plain guessing. Best to take the top off of the transmission and look down in it. What does the transmission do? Can you shift it?

Many years ago I had a synchro come apart in a T-14. Stopped me dead in my tracks except for the sideways slide it put me in. Scared the crap out of me.

Yes you are correct those are the teeth missing off the drive gear and are free to screw up any thing else in there as they bounce around.

Not that familiar with the T-90... however, you are looking down into the top of the transmission. The front wall of the transmission is marked by the yellow paint spot. The gear you see with the obviously broken teeth is the end of the input shaft. There's a large bearing that supports the input shaft mounted in the front of the transmission. Looks like that bearing failed and the alignment betweent the gear teeth was lost. This caused binding of the gears and breakage.

Well,so far we have 92$ in damage just for the new main shaft and bearing. Ill probally replace other small parts in there to,and i plan on replacing the clutch so thats gonna add up. Does anybody think the countershaft gear could be damaged too.??????

Truthfully I'll be surprised it it's not. I had a brand new one get screwed up from a tiny piece of metal.

Just to clarify, that's the input shaft not the main shaft. The main shaft is what everything else is on.

What's the condition of the rest of the transmission? You'll need to inspect the countershaft, but I would not be too hopefull. T-90s seem fairly easy to source - I would look for another core and use the best from both, plus some new parts.

Had that same thing happen to me many years ago with a SB Ford and a T90 trans, was young and dumb and trans shop gouged me for $400. Now would be a good time to consider the 3.44 to 1 first gear combo since you might need to get a cluster gear also.
