I think the 72-75 forum is a good idea, these years are treated like poorly by early and late owners alike. They are still cool jeeps.

    Whee!

Now I can ask I6 questions that come up on the Rambler. Never thought I'd own a car that I'd consider swapping Jeep parts into (quite a change of mindset...;)

Just found out that it has power steering!

Funny you should say that...I'm so out of it...I did not even know that the 72-75's were unpopular....I guess that explains all the snickering by others when I drive by...Which to be honest...is a relief...because all this time I thought it was because I'm fat and balding:)
Maybe it's all of the above.

Well... the most commonly overheard comment I've heard is, ' Wow, its a real life Barbie Jeep.' I've been noticing as I buy DVD sets of old TV shows how wildly popular the 5s were in Wonder Woman, A-Team, Airwolf, among others....

I have owned my 72 for about 9 1/2 years and bofore that I wasn't aware there was an intermediate CJ5 I thought that they were either Kaiser or AMC but now I can spot one from a mile away. On several occasions I have met other intermediate owners while wheeling and it is always easy to strike up a conversation, like how many cracks have you repaired in your frame and body or do you still have the clutch cable setup (72 owners) or have you had to replace any of the tub mount channels or the most common question that I am asked, where do you find your parts.

They certainly aren't very popular with the aftermarket parts suppliers. IMO that's their biggest problem.

Frame cracks are another problem, but they share that with their earlier brethren. The later models don't have cracks as much, but they have frame rust ...

I don't think they are unpopular with the public, unless the public owns an early or late CJ.

Yeah...I most certainly notice a major lack of after-market stuff. But...all the really cool stuff is built by yourself anyway.
Funny you should mention "not unpopular unless the public own an early or late CJ"...I am always surprised to find these nests of people who dislike something because they have something different. In example (and I'll bet that 99% of Jeep owners do not know this)...guys with woods rails (sandrail with mud tires pretty much) and guys with Baja bugs feel that they are in some kind of competition with Jeep owners. The only reason I am even aware of this is because I have a rail and a desert racer...So I pick up on conversations amongst fellow rail and Baja owners. It would seem that they feel they have something to prove. I think I really let the air out of a couple of guys when I informed them that the "contest" they are holding is in their own mind...because Jeep guys are not even aware that there is a competition going on...they are just happy to be off-road, having fun...and they are happy you are out there having fun too.

I just barely locked in on this site as I recently acquire a 73 CJ5 with a AMC V8 motor and I also have a YJ, but I tell you that even though the YJ is in excellent condition the CJ looks good even though I think I will restore it from the ground up so its great to find a site like this,,,
Question: The CJ came with a AMC hardtop-(perfect conition) does anybody know or have an idea how much $$ I can get for that even though everybody tells me not to sell...just wanted an Idea..thanks

I would never take it to the scrap yard...or give it away-especially for free- I know its valuable ( and I bet you do too ) and they are hard to come by..I just wanted to know about how valuable.. thanks though..
