Having always had trouble w/ leaky gaskets I did a search and the general consensus is aviation sealer for practically everything, so I want some. Picking up oil pan and valve cover gaskets today to put on before I paint the engine tomorrow and I want to be sure no oil gets on the pretty new paint job.:v6:

That may be it or could be the same stuff. I got the impression from comments by Old Bill that it was a permatex product.:v6:

Yes, it was a Permatex product. #2 IIRC and I believe that it had "avation" in the name of the product. Brown, molasses-ey looking stuff. Found it at my local FLAPS, so it shouldn't be hard to obtain....

We use red RTV 159 on high heat areas of the airframes and engines and insulation.

Oldbill is right. Also called "Aviation Form-a-gasket" on the container. I use it a lot for all my PTO and winch stuff and on soft plugs in engines. Available at most FLAPS. I really like to use Ultra-Black RTV also. Works very well for most everything else and fills in gaps well as it won't slowly slide away like the Form-a-gasket can in certain applications. Its best to use it on machined surfaces that already have a real close fit. Other wise RTV is still great when the mating surefaces are not that perfect.
