Hey guys, I'm getting ready to rebuild my T 90 /D 18 and was wondering about the various kits. Novacks looks very complete but pricey. Or Herm's, or Krage's? Any thoughts or recommendations? I haven't pulled it out yet just trying to get my thoughts together. Then I read about the 3:44 first gear...makes my head hurt

Whomever you go through to get your kit, make sure you get a Novak intermediate shaft for the Dana 18. They are more spendy but are the only ones that hold up other than a good original. All the others I've used were very soft and did not last long. Herm should be able to upgrade you to the Novak shaft. Nickmil.

x3. I bought a OA shaft, and it did NOT pass the center punch test. I took that thing back real fast. The Novak shaft even looks better side to side. Also, be sure to slightly chamber the edge of the intermediate shaft holes in the case. If you leave them sharp, it will cut the heck out of the O rings that come with the Novak shaft.....

I just rebuilt both of mine. I spent the money for the Dana 18 kit from Novak and I bought all of the T90 stuff from Krage. I was concerned about the quality of the bearings I might get with a cheaper transmission kit, but all of the bearings but one that I got from Krage were Timken as I recall.

Did any of you replace your second gear? Novak's site says this is a common fix for slipping out of second but none of the other kits include it.

I rebuilt both last summer. Got both kits from Herm. I had to replace my cluster gear. Got it from Krages for $90(I think). I'd rather fix it right the first time than have to do it twice, that's just my opinion:beer:

I ended up replacing all three gears with new ones. Mine were all rusted and pitted.
