I am in the process of rewiring my 1970 CJ5 with the 225 using a walck's wiring harness. Overall it has been very straight forward. Schematic is lacking though. I appear to have an aftermarket speedo assy. and am looking for info for the fuel/water temp. guages. There are no +/- reference markings and I understand the jumper is actually a resistor of some sort and I could damage the fuel guage if not correctly hooked up. Long story to ask for a picture of the back of a speedo setup. Thanks

I looked there first, did not see what I had hoped for.The undeside of my dash was a jumble of red wires (PO) so I decided to replace with the facory original setup. The jumper was hanging, and not connected. I am concerned about putting the jumper across the wrong terminals (not marked) on the aftermarket guage. I had read if the jumper was not used that the fuel guage could be damaged. The wiring info I recieved lacked the detail in this area. Thanks,Mike

the jumper is not a resister. it is just a metal strap to connect the 5 volt regulated terminal on the back of the gas guage to the power terminal on the temp guage. the gas guage has a 5 volt regulator built into it. there are 3 terminals on it:

    1. I ignition (12v in)
    2. A (not sure what A means but it is your 5v out to the temp guage and is where the jumper should be.)
    3. S (sender)

the temp guage has 2 terminals: one for the jumper and one for the sender. leaving the jumper off should not kill your gas guage.

the letters listed above are on the cardboard insulator on the back of the guages. you may have to remove them from the speedo to read them. can't remember at the moment.

Well I pulled out the speedo, checked the insulators and went to the extent of removing them and looking behind to find nothing. I am assuming this is one of those overseas special. At any rate I pulled out my trusty volt/ohm meter and checked the regulator for the voltage drop. No drop, 12 volt at the input and the jumper post. Guess I need a new guage before going any further, Bummer
