I'm looking for either an original or reproduction Jeep horn that was used on the CJ5's up to and including 1975 . Is there any place that sells this or something that sounds pretty close? What do you guys use on your restored Jeeps if you don't have the original horn? Thanks.

IIRC the JC Whitney "beep-beep" horn is pretty close.

The first place I would look is Walck's. But they don't provide much in terms of a description or photos.

From Walck's site, I found a 12V horn, part #926595. Is that the one you're referring to? I'll try to get more information from them directly.

I tried JC Whitney's site and found a "BEEP BEEP Horn", part #ZX151925P. From the description they give, it sounds pretty close :)

    Thanks.

Check out the "for sale" or post a "want to buy" ad in the appropriate forum. "for sale" worked for me..... Beep Beep!

I thought about getting a Roadrunner horn but they can get pricey.

I have the horn from J.C. Whitless. It's close, but no cigar. It gives a high-pitched Beep-Beep at 12-volts, but it's just not right.

I've been thinking about putting a ballast resistor in line with the horn circuit and trying that out, but haven't gotten around to that yet....

You might put some goop on the diaphragm to lower the frequency.

Tried that Tim. Worked for about a week.

Sad, but there seem to be a bunch of NOS 6v and 24v horns out there that have the "correct" sounfd to them, but the 12v horns still seem to be elusive....

I say try Walck's too. I got a 6-volt horn from Walck's quite a few years ago. They didn't have any 12-volt horns, but he said the 6v would work fine as long as I didn't hold it on for long periods.

They have .wav files of "beep beep", "meep meep", and "honk" type 6v horns at this link...I prefer the "honk" version myself, I want to be heard.

Ah, just put on one of those musical horns and program it to play "La Cucaracha".
